Two-photon photodissociation of NO through Rydberg levels in the 265–278 nm region: Spectra and photofragment angular distributions

چکیده
The spectroscopy and dynamics of the NO photodissociation through Rydberg levels near 74 000 cm have been investigated following two-photon excitation. The 6dp(v51) and 5ss(v53) levels overlap near 74 070 cm. Assignment of the rotational transitions for these levels has been aided by the use of the photoproduct angular distributions measured using product imaging techniques. Product imaging was also used to investigate the 8dp(v51) and 5ss(v52) regions assigned by previous investigators. In all cases, the major products were N(D)1O(P). The angular distributions vary strongly with rotational transition and with the assumed intermediate in the two-photon excitation scheme and can, for the most part, be predicted by calculation. They demonstrate that, for the Rydberg levels examined, the major contribution to the two-photon line strength is a P intermediate, likely the C P state, with less than a 30% amplitude contribution from either a S or D intermediate. © 2002 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1513458#

Measurements of Cl-atom photofragment angular momentum distributions in the photodissociation of Cl2 and ICl
We have studied the complete Cl-atom molecular-frame photofragment angular momentum distributions from the photodissociation of Cl2 and ICl in the 320–560 nm region using time-of-flight mass spectroscopy with laser detection. The experimental signals were analyzed using the polarization-parameter formalism described in the preceding paper. These experiments study three distinct cases. The first...
متن کاملTwo-photon state selection and angular momentum polarization probed by velocity map imaging: application to H atom photofragment angular distributions from the photodissociation of two-photon state selected HCl and HBr.
A formalism for calculating the angular momentum polarization of an atom or a molecule following two-photon excitation of a J-selected state is presented. This formalism is used to interpret the H atom photofragment angular distributions from single-photon dissociation of two-photon rovibronically state selected HCl and HBr prepared via a Q-branch transition. By comparison of the angular distri...
متن کاملPhotodissociation of the BrO radical using velocity map ion imaging: excited state dynamics and accurate D0(0)(BrO) evaluation.
We have studied the photodissociation dynamics of expansion-cooled BrO radical both above (278-281.5 nm) and below (355 nm) the A (2)Pi(3/2) state threshold using velocity map ion imaging. A recently developed late-mixing flash pyrolytic reactor source was utilized to generate an intense BrO radical molecular beam. The relative electronic product branching ratios at 355 nm and from 278 to 281.5...
متن کاملPhotodissociation dynamics of ClN3 at 193 nm.
Photofragment translational spectroscopy was used to identify the primary and secondary reaction pathways in 193 nm photodissociation of chlorine azide (ClN(3)) under collision-free conditions. Both the molecular elimination (NCl+N(2)) and the radical bond rupture channel (Cl+N(3)) were investigated and compared with earlier results at 248 nm. The radical channel strongly dominates, just as at ...
متن کاملPhotodissociation dynamics of allyl bromide at 234, 265, and 267 nm.
The photodissociation dynamics of allyl bromide was investigated at 234, 265, and 267 nm. A two-dimensional photofragment ion velocity imaging technique coupled with a [2+1] resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization scheme was utilized to obtain the angular and translational energy distributions of the nascent Br* (2P1/2) and Br (2P3/2) atoms. The Br fragments show a bimodal translational energ...
